SUPPORT THE SOCIETY |
We are very keen to get more support for Truro Choral Society - new choir members, increase our audiences, and money !!
Below are some ideas.
PublicityWe need to increase our membership and our audiences – and everyone can help! These days people find information about “What’s On” from paid newspapers, free papers, local village newssheets, posters, websites, radio, and by word of mouth. I will ensure that paid-for adverts appear in the West Briton and the Cornish Guardian; those papers will also receive press releases. However, paid-for advertising is too expensive to do frequently so to increase our singing membership it’s important to place information leaflets/posters in libraries, churches, etc. I will also send information to each of the following:
It would help greatly if we could set up a team of local Bill-Posters. If each of the several main villages surrounding Truro, with their shops and churches, received a poster our profile would be raised. The time for action is now, to advertise our existence and attract new singers before the new term starts. I will continue to try to get airtime on Radio Cornwall and Pirate FM. Radio Cornwall’s “What’s On” broadcast is quite reliable. They have received notification of the start of our new season on 8th September and our Workshop (Mozart Requiem, 26 September). Press release August 2009 New singers wanted as choral society enters new era After 15 years of fine leadership from Michael Edwards, Truro Choral Society has a new Musical Director, Martin Palmer. Two new ventures this year will be a performance of Carmina Burana next spring, and the increased involvement of local young singers. The choir restarts on September 8th, with rehearsals for Handel’s Zadok the Priest, and Salmow Kernewek by local composer Russell Pascoe to be performed in Newquay Parish Church on October 17th. Then we prepare for a spectacular performance of Handel’s Messiah to be performed in Truro Cathedral on December 12th The choir is one of the largest in Cornwall and is seeking to increase numbers further. The first 3 rehearsals may be attended as free tasters, and students in fulltime education at school or college pay no subscription. Rehearsals are every Tuesday evening at Richard Lander School. The society exists to give everyone an opportunity to sing choral music. There is no audition for prospective members. How you can help: |

FRIENDS OF TRURO CHORAL SOCIETY As additional Friends are always welcomed I would be grateful if you know of anyone who would be interested in becoming a Friend, husbands, partners, grandparents, sons, daughters, work colleagues etc. The cost is £40 per annum and this entitles them to two concert tickets during the year so it is quite an attractive offer! Please contact me if you can twist arms etc with any names and addresses and I would be delighted to write to them with full details. Many thanks. FUND RAISING WALK – DON’T
MISS IT NEXT TIME! |
||||
|
|
On one of the few gloriously
sunny days in May intrepid members of TCS enjoyed a fundraising walk in the
St Agnes area, led by Ron Dale and Anne Bartlett. Many thanks go to them for
what turned out to be an unforgettable experience. Our only regret (especially our Chairman’s) was that we did not take a detour via Chapel Porth for a Robin’s Hedgehog ice cream. We were promised “next time” and that will surely be when you come along, too – if for no other reason than to see our Treasurer’s smile as we put our donations into the TCS money bag - and for a Robin’s Hedgehog of course! |
