Truro Choral Society and the BBC’s Sing Hallelujah Project

Truro Choral Society has registered its performance of Handel’s Messiah - and within it the Hallelujah Chorus - on 12th  December as part of the Sing Hallelujah Project. The Society will be joined by two school choirs for the performance; Truro School Senior Choir and Richard Lander Palestrina Choir. The Society’s aim is ‘to give everyone the opportunity to sing choral music’. We hope the performance will encourage new people to start singing and enjoy it.

Sing Hallelujah is a nationwide project which encourages people to discover the joy of singing through Handel’s famous “Hallelujah Chorus”. Sing Hallelujah is a project from the BBC, led by BBC Radio 3, and English National Opera. 2009 marks the 250th anniversary of Handel’s death and everyone from beginners to established choirs is invited to learn the “Hallelujah Chorus” and encouraged to perform the work during November and December.

In recognition of the fact that upon his death Handel left the score of Messiah and all its orchestral parts to benefit a charitable institution for children, we will hold a retiring collection in aid of the BBC’s Children in Need appeal at the end of our concert. We hope our audience will help us to support children in this way, thus continuing in the spirit of Handel’s last will in this his anniversary year.

We are an unauditioned choir, so you don’t have to pass a test to join. Just come along to rehearsal and have a go at singing with us. We will be very pleased to see you.
