Our new accompanist

We are delighted to welcome our new accompanist, Alden Wright, Organ Scholar at Truro Cathedral. A recent graduate of Eastman School of Music, Rochester, New York, Alden continues our recent trend for accompanists from North America. We look forward to welcoming him to the choir, and also to hearing his organ recital at the Cathedral on 15 October.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals will re-start on Tuesday 07 September 2021, at Truro School Chapel, although with some restrictions in accordance with government guidelines. Rehearsal will start at 7 pm, and last for one hour. Members will also be able to access the rehearsal via Zoom.

We will be rehearsing the music for the Diocesan Union Festival on 02 October, and also for our Messiah concert on 11 December.

Annual General Meeting

Members have been sent notice of the AGM, which will take place on 29 June 2021. A decision on whether the meeting will be in person or online will be made nearer the time, based on government guidelines.

Latest projects

Online rehearsals are continuing apace with Haydn’s Nelson Mass, dovetailing with an exciting new enterprise devised by our Music Director, Martin Palmer, “Messiah in 12 minutes”. Then later, staying with Haydn, we will move on to The Creation.

We are also pleased to announce that Carolyn Craig has kindly agreed to run another Summer School for us this year – details to follow.

“Away in a Manger” video recording

The choir’s video recording of Russell Pascoe’s arrangement of the carol “Away in a Manger” is now complete and can be viewed at:

Many thanks to those who have given of their time and expertise to make this recording possible (listed at the end of the video), and especially to our MD Martin Palmer and Barry Coleman for producing the video.

Plans for Christmas music

We will shortly start rehearsing Russell Pascoe’s arrangement of Away in a Manger, thanks to Russell’s kind permission.

We also plan to sing Messiah and carols from “Carols for Choirs” (Books 1 & 2).
